I Dare You To Believe In Someone
Through vocalized belief they will be given the courage to break habits, overcome set back, and take steps forward for growth. Your belief matters to your athletes. So share it authentically, purposefully, and vocally. It could be the difference between a set back, and a set up for greatness.
There is someone involved with your team right now and all they need is for you to believe in them. Through that vocalized and authentic belief they will then have the courage to break habits, overcome set backs, and take a leap forward in growth. Your belief matters, I dare you to share it. #DailyMight
Being a successful youth sports coach means having a demonstrated history of navigating some of life’s most challenging and unpredictable situations (ahem, children) positively and with high character. It is your job to successfully grow and teach, build up, and be curious enough to get to know kids with the sole responsibility of being a positive role model in their lives. I know that’s a tall order, but I have the secret.
As a youth sports coach, as in any leadership role, it is part of our job description to be what other leaders refer to as “in the weeds.” We are to have a robust knowledge of as many details regarding our teams, parents, players, and the organizations we support by coaching. Above all, we must be in the weeds with our players, and their thought processes.
Being in the weeds with your players means you spend time getting to know them. Figuring out what makes them tick, and using that knowledge to bring out the best in them. How to influence them in a meaningful way towards helping them achieve. For me that comes down to belief. I honestly and truthfully believe every athlete is capable of greatness. And I think that belief is a strong ingredient in the youth athlete success formula. Both from the leader, and from the athlete.
Here is the truth: There is someone involved with your team right now (player, coach, parent, admin staff) that all they need is for you to believe in them. I am encouraging you to vocalize it. Speak belief into existence. Be a proud supporter of them. Through that vocalized belief they will be given the courage to break habits, overcome set back, and take steps forward for growth. Your belief matters to your athletes. So share it authentically, purposefully, and vocally. It could be the difference between a set back, and a set up for greatness.
Give everything your everything. And then some.
